Nauseas? Try An All Natural Approach

A recent study published by researchers in The Journal of Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine found that ginger works as well as the OTC drug Dramamine in combating nausea associated with morning sickness. Luckily, ginger is a Chinese herb that is so common that it can be easily found in many forms from tea to candy to the fresh herb itself. According to Chinese medicine theory, it is best for pregnant women to have fresh ginger as opposed to dry since it is less heating in nature. It’s effects definitely are not limited to morning sickness as it is also very beneficial for individuals who have nausea associated with cancer treatment to someone who just happens to have occasional nausea from traveling or improper food intake.

Spice Things Up With Ginger Tea

When it starts to get cooler outside, meaning anything under 100 degrees here in Tucson, ginger tea is the perfect beverage to drink. This is due to its ability to warm us up from its spicy taste and its effect on increasing circulation. Not only this, it is also great for digestion. Most people think of ginger tea for nausea already, but it can also help poor digestion in general. Another interesting fact is that fresh ginger contains gingerol, a compound that acts as an antioxidant.

Ginger Tea:

  • 1 1/2 C water
  • 1” piece fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp. brown sugar
  • lemon to taste (optional)

Wash ginger and slice into 4 or 5 discs. Put ginger into small pot with water. Heat on high until a rolling boil. Immediately turn down heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and strain tea into mug. Add brown sugar and lemon juice, if using. Drink warm.
